What do you get when you cross Hollywood, Las Vegas and New Your City? You get Corinth! It was a commercial crossroads for the Roman Empire and it attracted great crowds of foreigners from the East and the West. Corinth was intellectually alert, materially prosperous, but morally corrupt.
Paul spent 18 months in Corinth preaching the Gospel and many of them became believers in Jesus, but they brought their reputations with them right into the church. After Paul left Corinth, he heard their news of divisions, immorality, disorder and improper use of freedom found in Christ, so he addresses them in his letter to the Corinthians. The theme of this book is Christian lifestyle in a pagan society.
