Genesis 26-38 might be summarized by the sentiment “I’m going to make sure I get mine.” It is story-after-story of the generational effects of deceit, backstabbing, competition, unfair business practices, and plots to one-up each other. As you read, notice the lack of trust that permeates these family relationships, as well as the lack of trust in God’s word and His promises. Does God need our strategizing to help fulfill his promises? If someone has been wronged by another person, are they right to seek their own means of justice? If we are partners with God in making history, when are we hurting and when are we helping? Looking forward to a good discussion!
