Psalms

Teacher: Ed Reifsnyder

One hour. 150 chapters. How are we going to do this?

Are you one of those people who love Psalms? If so, why? Are you one of those people who don't particularly care for Psalms? If so, why?

Have you discovered a theme or themes in Psalms? Does it hang together for you? Is it supposed to hang together?

Have you read Psalms that make you wonder?

  • "I am weary with groaning; every night I drench my bed, I melt my couch in tears." Ps. 6:7
  • "Why, LORD, do you stand aloof, heedless in times of trouble?" Ps. 10:1
  • "How long, O LORD; will you ignore me forever?" Ps. 13:1
  • "Rise O LORD! Deliver me O my God! For you slap all enemies in the face; you break the teeth of the wicked." Ps. 3:7
  • "My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, 'Where is your god'? Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?" Ps. 42:3, 5

Do you find your emotional self somewhere in Psalms? Your worshipping self? Your praising self? Your doubting self? Your angry self? I hope you find yourself somewhere in the Psalms.
