We first meet Simon bar Jonah along the seashore of the Sea of Galilee where Jesus gives him his new name the Rock. His life appears more like a pile of sand until Jesus dismantles Peter's entire being and recreates this pile of sand into the rock of a Christian community. Peter's transformation is noted in his last will and testament in 2 Peter.
