- Satan's attack.
- Stones to bread: Is Jesus able to trust God's providence and provision? Is he the obedient Son of God? Is God fair in what he commands and provides? Does God abandon His children? Connection to the Garden of Eden. Is God too petty?
- Throw yourself down: 1st test; can God be trusted, 2nd test; can we trust God with abandon? God's provision with no strings attached. Does God's provision negate human reason and responsibility? Can there be human free will with out consequences? Does mercy cancel out responsibility?
- "Worship me!" First two tests have been about the relationship between God and Jesus. Now the temptation is about Jesus and Satan. Satan's dismal failure. Binary character of the temptations, they reveal the character and intent of Jesus as well as Satan.
