Reflect: Psalm 23 has been called the “Psalm of a contented heart.” This is a great place to begin this week as we explore what it means to live a life of contentment. Pastor and author, Steven J. Cole, notes that this passage of scripture, written by David, provides a sort of “step by step” for the person seeking a contented life:
Step 1 - Make the Lord your shepherd (verse 1)
Step 2 - Know and enjoy the Good Shepherd’s gracious provisions (verse 2-3)
Step 3 - Walk with the Good Shepherd through the hard times (verse 4-5)
Step 4 - See God’s goodness in every situation, both now and in the future (verse 6)
When we recognize God as our good shepherd we will live our lives differently. We may rest in the promises that He is always with us and will take care of us through the good and bad times.
Recalibrate: What is the difference between contentment and complacency?
Respond: Pray that God will help you recognize the ways He is caring for you.
