Reflect: I grew up going to work with my dad. Dad was the local mechanic and while there where other mechanics in town, my dad was the one who was known to be able to fix pretty much anything. I have memories of answering the phone and truck drivers on the other end of the line asking if my dad could listen to their truck to see if it was a good idea for them to continue driving or if doing that would damage their engine. These phone calls would often end in the owner of the transport company pulling up out the front of our shed to pick up my dad so he could repair their truck so they could continue on to the fruit market.
How are you sounding today? Are you needing to stop and listen to see if there is something that does not sound right? Is that sound going to potentially cause greater damage down the road?
Romans 12:1-3 urges us to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice—that this is true and proper worship.
Have a listen to what you are not only saying out loud, but also to the silent dialogue that you play in you mind. Is what you’re saying and thinking a pleasant smelling sacrifice? Psalms 145 says that I will lift you high in praise my God O my King and I’ll bless your name into eternity.
I want to sound like this!
Recalibrate:
Respond: Pray for a heart that listens to God’s voice.
Research: Look up where else in the Bible the term “living sacrifice” comes up.
