Refresh: Open with prayer. Read or listen to Psalm 86:14–17.
Read: Romans 12 (NLT). As you read the New Living Translation, note 1–3 insights/questions.
Reflect: Who am I worshipping? I ask myself this question regularly—in fact, daily, because I’m so easily distracted. Romans 12:2 says not to be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. This action is true and proper worship. Romans chapter 12 tells us how to do that—to humbly serve together and to love one another and honor one another above ourselves.
I was "born into" this denomination and was raised serving in church. I have to say it has only been recently that I have loved it. Not because of its doctrine, but because God commands me to. God loves all of his churches and He commands us to love them, too. If I am worshipping God, then through the power of the Holy Spirit, I have to renew the pattern of my mind from being one of critical judgement to one of unconditional love.
This journey of choosing to love over judging and criticizing is painful to undertake because we have to admit and know that we are wrong even when we think we are right.
The early church was called “THE WAY” for a reason. We are called to follow Jesus and, like Him, to love His church.
